COVID-19 (Coronavirus) update – 22nd May 2020
COVID-19 (Coronavirus) update – 22nd May 2020With many Australian states now relaxing further restrictions and with some states advising this week that most students are to return to class full time from Monday 25th May, with full return across most jurisdictions being around the 09th June. On a business front hopefully, this will provide some impetus for business and we will start to see a return to what may be the new normal. Rate Updates – North East Asia to AustraliaShipping lines have announced a rate restoration from 1st June 2020 from North East Asia (Korea, China, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan) to Australia. The increase has been advertised of USD200/20’ and USD400/40’ for dry containers. This increase will be on top of existing market rates and will be subject to ancillary surcharges applicable at the time of the shipment. There is also a weight discrepancy fee being allocated from Malaysia, from one of the carriers, and this will be based on a discrepancy of +/- 5 tonne between declared VGM and weight on the shipping instruction. BAF remains consistent from May to June with most carriers from Asia to Australia. Ocean and Airfreight DemandsShipping lines would like to be advised expected forecasts so that they can implement vessel capacity to meet volume demands to provide sufficient sailings. If you can please communicate this to the team, so that we can ensure that the communication is flowing through to ensure the capacity is available to meet the volume demand. Airfreight pricing is still at its peak but we are seeing more airlines returning but again depending on demand this is indicate what pricing is available in the market. If you have any questions, or would like to discuss anything further, please do not hesitate to pick up the phone and speak to the team. |
