COVID-19 (Coronavirus) update – 15th May 2020

We are starting to see many countries, including Australia, start to reduce lockdowns which is allowing people to move around and come back to their work and businesses. What we hope to see from this, is an increase in trade and the availability of stock as we know there are businesses which are trying to get back on their feet, but supply chains have been effected.

As we prepare for retail to recommence in Australia is will be important for businesses to start preparing and planning for quarters 3 & 4 in 2020. The opportunity to airfreight last minute will be extremely limited and we are predicting a very tight peak season in the seafreight space as well.

As we have said over the past few weeks, the best way forward is to talk to us about your planned requirements and we can assist with advice and bookings to make the process as smooth as possible.

Import duty concessions for COVID-19 items

Australian Border Force has provided further clarity and confirmation on the goods which are able to claim the new by-law when imported. The goods are considered vital in reducing the spread of COVID-19 in the community.

The bylaw is valid until the 31st July 2020 and if you have imported any items linked to COVID-19. After the 01st February 2020 and paid import duty then you may have a claim for a refund of that duty.

Export restrictions

The Australian Government very early in the COVID-19 pandemic implemented export restrictions that prohibit the export of items considered critical to the Australian public to stop the spread of the virus. As we have previously advised these restrictions have been in place since March 2020.

These items including face masks, goggles, eyewear, hand sanitizer, gowns amongst other items are now considered to be prohibited exports. There are exemptions to these regulations however unless to specifically comply with the exemptions the goods are not allowed to be exported.

Unlike the import bylaw there is no expiry date on this regulation and therefore please seek advice and assistance prior to committing to export these goods.

Should you have any queries in relation to your logistics requirements or just need to talk to someone whilst in isolation please give us a call. Have a fantastic weekend.
