COVID-19 (Coronavirus) update – 16th April 2020

With previous newsletters we have focused on the local issues and airfreight and seafreight in general. Whilst the overall picture changes most weeks there has not bee a great deal of new data on this front.

Therefore today’s newsletter revolves around different challenges Internationally.

China:
China has re implemented lock-downs in certain parts of the country and as an extension has also implemented strict export restrictions on personal protective equipment like masks, gloves and gowns, as well as hand sanitizer.

These items may only be exported in certain circumstances and should you be looking to export these from China please liaise with both your supplier and your Vox contact.

India:
India is in lock-down until the 03rd May and this has grounded the country to a halt. However once the lock-down is lifted we expect a great deal of activity. Indications from India is that once the country re-opens there will be a lot to export with only limited space.

Should you be looking to export from India we would recommend advising us as soon as possible to give us the time to secure space and equipment.

Europe:
Whilst most of Europe are looking to ease restrictions and there has been not that many impediments to trade issues out of Europe, it is more to do with specialised equipment than the actual securing of space.

A number of shipping lines have accepted bookings only to be unable to provide the equipment needed for the movement. This situation has also lead to whispers of further charges “equipment inbalance surcharge”. We will continue to keep you updated as we learn more and will provide all our clients with options both in relation to rates and shipping lines.

USA:
The USA is moving seafreight generally on a business as usual . There is space and equipment shortages but these are being overcome with a bit of innovation. Airfreight is still very difficult, however we are able to move airfreight, its just not as seamless as prior to the virus.

As we keep saying, there is always a way to make the movement of your goods happen. You just need to speak to us and provide the required timelines and we will work with you to make it happen. Stay safe and any queries please give us a call.
