COVID-19 (Coronavirus) update – 29th May 2020

Home » COVID-19 (Coronavirus) update – 29th May 2020

All news currently points to an easing of restrictions around the world which will hopefully assist factories in coming back on line and getting back to close to pre COVID-19 output. The overseas airlines are talking about commencing flights again which will help get freight to hubs where we may be able to get some consistent airfreight movements into Australia.

In relation to seafreight the market continues to struggle with space as most freight is moving via seafreight and the number of vessels and sailings are still being constricted. This is allowing a number of lines to implement General Rate Increases (GRI’s) and therefore rates are increasing generally.

It is envisaged this will be a very difficult year through peak season as with airfreight unlikely to be anywhere near normal capacity more freight will move seafreight and therefore planning will be the key.

APL England

The issue with the APL England losing upwards of 40 containers and there being damage to a other containers still on board show the importance of having your goods insured. The bill of lading terms and conditions restrict the liability of the shipping lines in both value and culpability and therefore having your goods insured is vital in these types of situations.

Whilst VoxGroup do not offer insurance we can refer our clients to reputable companies that are able to provide this service.

For clients with goods on this vessel, we are still awaiting the final list of containers both lost and damaged and will keep you updated as more information becomes available.

Anti-Dumping investigation

The Anti-Dumping Commission (ADC) has commenced a dumping investigation into the imports of steel strapping from China and Vietnam.
If you are looking to import these products please speak to us prior to arranging the movement. As the investigation progresses the ADC may implement the requirement to pay securities on imported goods and therefore the timing and source of supply could be critical.

If you would like more information on this investigation or want to provide a submission to the ADC please contact us and we can assist with this process.

Be safe, have a good day and if you have any queries on the above information please give us a call.
