Ocean and Airfreight Update
Oceanfreight
The ocean situation globally is extremely tight due to reduced vessel capacity into Australia. Compounding this problem locally are continuous issues with stevedores and unions which is causing ongoing delays in arrivals and availabilities.
We are seeing delays at transshipment ports through Asia, with Singapore and Malaysia recording delays up to 1-2 weeks in those ports.
The other side of this is vessels are moving at capacity and therefore limited space, hence the shipping lines are announcing to implement General Rate Increases (GRI’s), which are anywhere from USD50 per TEU up to USD300-400 per TEU.
We continue to work with our overseas partners to get the most competitive rates, with space to ensure containers move. It is worth noting the ultra-cheap rates in the market are seeing containers being rolled and delays in loading, as space is limited with the shipping lines with low-priced rates.
Airfreight
Airfreight into Australia has been consistent in that there are several carriers that are continuing to move, and some charters have remained. Airfreight pricing is still extremely high, and we are seeing arrival times extended, delayed, and arriving into other states and being trucked to their final destination.
This is causing small delays but overall, airfreight continues to move. There is however limited capacity, so if you require airfreight please advise, so that we can work with your required uplift and delivery time-frames.
BMSB Season is HERE!
BMSB season is now upon us and if you have any ocean shipments with origins from North America, Europe, and some Asian countries, they must be treated prior to release by the department.
Open top containers, flat racks or non-solid containers MUST be treated overseas. These types of shipments cannot be treated in Australia and if they do arrive and are not treated, they will not be discharged.
Speak to us prior to organising any shipments, and we will assist with the planning and treating of your goods.
Stay safe and should you have any queries please contact us directly.
