Sydney Port Congestion Surcharge

As you would be aware from our last newsletter most shipping lines have introduced a Port Congestion Surcharge for all containers into Sydney.

ONE line (the shipping line) has omitted Sydney from its rotation for a number of vessels and is charging USD325 per TEU to move the containers from Melbourne discharge to Sydney.

The situation will only get worse and these charges are expected to increase with little to zero notice.

Industrial Action at the Stevedores

DP World has commenced action in the Fair Work Commission against the industrial action taken by the Maritime Unions. The industrial action is spreading with numerous slots cancelled in Brisbane and numerous delays in Sydney with vessel discharge and availability.

We are also seeing detention commencing from discharge date even when availability does not commence for 2 days.

Overall the situation between the Stevedores and the Union is also deteriorating and importers and exporters are caught with no option but to see what transpires.

VoxLogistics is continuing to investigate weekend pick ups, late night slots and other options available to allow us to provide the best service with the least disruptions.
